Have you ever searched online for “business ideas for a business” before? How about “ideas to make money online”? I have run a lot of these and similar searches before, especially “how to make money online fast”. In this post, I walk you through the process of coming up with creative ideas that are hidden deep inside you. Let us get going.
You want to start a business, but you are starving for ideas. Rest assured. By the end of this post, you will have enough ideas to have your business started in no time. Your entrepreneurial spirit will be ignited within for a life of success.
Having a thought of being an entrepreneur is a great thing. Perhaps you also yearn to escape the 9-5 rat race or pursue a passionate craft. Whatever? The only problem is, you have no idea what sort of business to start.
There are about six million businesses in the US, and the UK has about three thousand or more businesses. I don’t know the exact figures. There is literally a business for almost every problem in the world.
You don’t know where for ideas to start a business. Somebody in one way or another is exploiting every piece of advice on the internet. Don’t despair as every successful entrepreneur was able to start by drawing from their passions, skills and market needs.
I want to share insights to help you come up with those ideas that can get you going as a business owner.
Your background and Skills
You have talents or something you can identify that you are good at from childhood or at school. Think back if there is something you are good at naturally or some skills that you acquired in life or in school. This is your unique set of skills. It could be coding, graphic designing, tinkering with machines, fixing things, raising animals or crop farming.
There are more things you may know or acquire such as public speaking, writing, problem-solving, empathizing with others, and so on.
Get a pen, and paper, and list down all these skills and innate talents. Family and friends who know you better may help you with identifying some of these qualities you have.
Please forget about pursuing passion for now, or trying to fix your weaknesses. It may take you long to fix your weaknesses, and your passion may not be worth paying money for by your customers. Entrepreneurs seize the time, there is no time to waste to keep acquiring new skills (literally).
Use what you have, wherever you are, to start getting stuff down NOW.
Find a problem to solve
There are lots of problems in the world, in your country, in your community that need solving. Some of these unique and special problems are not searchable online. You can also discover it by being observant in your environment.
Sometimes, people do not even know they have a problem that needs solving. Steve Jobs didn’t come to ask people if they needed an iPhone without a keypad. Having high observational skills is helpful here.
Problems can be obvious and easy to spot, and some can be difficult to identify. The internet may not be helpful here.
Have you complained about anything before? Do you hear people complaining about a situation?
Open your eyes and your ears wherever you are. Listen and watch people to see what they are nagging about (yourself included).
After a while, you will start noticing problems in society and online that you can exploit in your entrepreneurial journey. Get a pen and paper to write down every problem idea that you have.
Your work is to find a way to use your background and skills to solve one or two of the problems that you have on your list. This is how you get business ideas with ease.
This list of problems is your ticket to ignite your entrepreneurial spirit. Do not ignore any solutions that come to mind, to solve the problems you have on your list. Just write everything down.
Conclusion
You may not have the background and skills to solve all or some of the problems on your list. But you can find someone with the necessary tool set to help you solve the problem(s). You really do not need to be the one with the skills to provide the solution.
The next post will explore the #1 skill entrepreneurs need to be successful in business.
